The EcoSmart Foundation is a not-for-profit Canadian corporation based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Our mission is to advance innovative technologies and practices that are ecologically and economically smart. Our work focuses on creating collaborative industry-government partnerships to further sustainability, primarily within the renewable energy, green building and sustainable construction industries.
For nearly 20 years, we have been active in the following fields:
ENERGY For the last 10 years, EcoSmart has increasingly focused its efforts on renewable energy, in particular PV solar energy with two prominent large-scale solar PV projects: SunMine and Tsilhqot’in.
CONSTRUCTION The production of one tonne of cement produces one tonne of CO2. We helped the cement and concrete industry reduce their environmental footprint by replacing cement with recycled industrial by-products.
GREEN BUILDING We were involved in green buildings even before LEED existed. We developed a ‘deep-green’ display called the ‘Sustainable Condo’ that traveled across North America, and then we sent an updated version to China.
EcoSmart operates out of Vancouver, BC, Canada and is a governed by a board of directors, made up of volunteer members from across the country, who represent research, government, and the private sector.
